The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee

There is a party in the making.  Queen Elizabeth is celebrating her Diamond Jubilee.  For your information, that means she has been Queen of England for 60 years.  Oh, my!  Don’t you think that deserves a party?

Last year we had the Royal Tea Shower for Prince William and Kate.  How could we let the occasion of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee commence without a celebration?  The Living Stones and Albers’ Bible Study Classes are joining the celebration Texas Style.  I like to think of it as Denim and Diamonds – Jubilee that is.

As part of the official programme, the Queen is encouraging everyone to participate in The Big Jubilee Lunch. For the past three years, The Big Lunch has been celebrated in Great Britain.  It appears to be similar to our Neighborhood Night Out Parties where neighbors are encouraged to socialize.  Last year around 2 million people participated in The Big Lunch.  This year the Queen’s official Diamond Jubilee celebration weekend (June 2-5) occurs on the traditional weekend of The Big Lunch (the first weekend in June).  So, the Queen is encouraging everyone to participate in a Big Jubilee Lunch- so states the monarchy website.

With that information as my inspiration, I began planning a Big Supper.

A phrase in the Big Jubilee Lunch ad that is running in Great Britain asks, “What will you bring to the table?”  Isn’t that wonderful?  It can have meaning on so many levels.  Here is the link to the YouTube video of the ad.

For more inspirations, I have been searching Pinterest for ideas.  If you have not visited Pinterest, you must.  It is so much fun.  On your boards (they are like a virtual bulletin boards) you can save pictures, recipes, and anything else you want to remember.  The best part is that you can go back to the original site for the first hand information.  They say you need to be invited to join.  Let me know if you need an invitation.  I have created a Diamond Jubilee board.  Feel free to stop by my Pinterest home page to see this board.

This is the official logo for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.  There was a contest among school children to design the official logo.  We took our inspiration from the official logo, and Ben created an invitation.  It is so cute!  I was going to show it too you, but the file is too big. Of course, I don’t know how to fix it.  But I will learn!  On another note, all these pictures were approved to be downloaded from the Official Monarchy Website.  I think they are large, but again, I didn’t know what to do.

It is so much fun to plan a party – stressful at times – but still it makes me happy.  Will try to keep you updated on our plans.

Be thinking, “What will you bring to the table?”  You might leave your answer in the comment section.  You have to click on the title of the blog, and then you will be taken to the Lanabird.com site.  At the bottom of the post is a comment section.  I would love to hear from you.

Blessings to you and yours,

Panic!  Only 12 more days until the party.
