The Antique Rose Emporium – Isn’t that the most wonderful magical name?

Several miles outside Brenham, Texas is this display garden nursery. Super Sister had raved about it.  Ever so often someone would mention going to Brenham for antique roses.  How intriguing.  I longed to see for myself.

On the long way home from Bastrop, we realized we would be going through Brenham.  Ever-Lovin’ and I thought this would be the perfect day to finally visit The Antique Rose Emporium.  Be still my heart!  Words cannot begin to explain what I experenced that spring afternoon.

This is the place to buy antique roses!  They are the hearty varieties found along the backroads of Texas (and other places also).  Did you know that there are rose enthusiast called “rose rustlers” who comb cemeteries and abandoned homesteads looking for antique roses?  These roses thrive even though they are abandoned and neglected.  If they can live with no care in the wild, just imagine how easily they will grow in your garden.  Check out The Antique Rose Emporium website to read their story and see their catalog.

Here are a couple of pictures of antique roses in their display gardens.

The display gardens provide inspiration.

Here is a “flower bed.”

Bad hair day for the flowerpot lady.  At least she has hair.

This bottle tree is the tallest I have ever seen.

It wasn’t all roses.  Love these irises.

Beautiful!

Peaceful!

I realize this is faulty reasoning, but I liken flowers and plants at a nursery to orphaned dogs waiting to be rescued from the shelter.  The plants at the nursery need a home, and they will provide beautiful flowers and perfume to my garden.  I want to bring all the plants home with me, but realistically I know that I can not provide a good home for all the plants.  It is so hard to choose which plants to rescue.  I wanted my cart to look like this young man’s cart.  He was with his grandfather, and so proud of the roses they were taking home.  El Tahoe  was already full.  Two plants made the journey home with us that day.  I so want to go back, – or I could order from the catalog or order online.

Blessings to you and yours,
