Groom, Texas

Sometimes good things come from little places.  Consider – Groom, Texas.

Forty miles east of Amarillo in Groom, Texas is a 19 story (that would be 190 feet) free-standing Cross that can be seen twenty miles away on a very clear day.  It is called The Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, and it was constructed to glorify God and to be a testimony of what Christ has done for us.

There are no words to adequately describe The Cross, and what you will experience when you visit.  How amazing that someone would have a vision of witnessing to the ten million people who drive by The Cross as they travel Interstate 40 each year.

Awesome!  To to our surprise, there is so much more to see when you stop.

Surrounding the cross are thirteen (I think) life-size sculptures of the Stations of the Cross.  A granite marker gives scripture to illustrate each station.

So touching.  Reminds me of Michelangelo’s Pieta at the Vatican.

This is the entrance to the counseling center and the gift shop (FYI: It is a good gift shop).  We thought this was a sight we seldom see any more.  People from all walks of life were visiting.  They estimate one thousand people stop each day.  The counseling center encourages anyone seeking to know more about Jesus to come and learn about our Lord.

The depictions of the The Last Supper and The Crucifixion on Mount Calvary were beautiful.

In the courtyard is The Fountain of the Living Water.  How wonderful!  Remember – this is Groom, Texas – not Rome, Italy.

There is a replica of the Empty Tomb where Jesus lay.

We serve a risen savior.

He is risen.

He is risen indeed!

I was blessed by taking a short detour to see The Cross of Our Lord Jesus Christ.  Do go if you ever have a chance.

Blessings to you and yours,
