Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear Dwight!  Happy Birthday to you!

Today was Dwight’s birthday.  Dwight is one of the finest men I have ever had the pleasure of knowing, and I have known some very fine men.  Honest, dependable, hard working, a loving husband, a devoted father, and a man who loves the Lord are just a few of the words that come to mind when I think of Dwight.  He also likes my cinnamon rolls which makes me proud.

He is married to my dear sweet friend whom I refer to as Mrs. Ralph because she channels Ralph Lauren into her decorating style, and her home is beyond gorgeous.

This afternoon she called and asked if we would like to join them at Hoffbrau Steaks for a birthday dinner.  How wonderful!

Hoffbrau Steaks has been open a few months over on Coit and Campbell, but we had not had the opportunity to eat there.  Rumors were that the chicken fried steak was good, and since Dwight is an expert (he really is) on chicken fried steak, this was the perfect place for his birthday meal.

The first thing that got my attention as we walked through the door was the decor.  The restaurant is nostalgic and has a warm comfortable feel.

Screen doors were attached to the rafters. I would never have thought of that.  There was a fine specimen of a longhorn mounted on wall.

The walls were covered with rustic shiplap.  Good looking.

Light fixtures were wind turbines.  What a cleaver idea.  The galvanized finish was such a good look.

Even the booth backs were embossed with a leather pattern.  We all know this pattern has a name, but we all don’t know what the name is.

Be Still My Heart!  There was Mobil flying horse that took up almost one entire wall.  It was wonderful.  One can’t be from Dallas and not appreciate Pegasus.

In the bar was an antler chandelier and a tin ceiling.  I am such a sucker for tin ceilings.

Yes, we did come to eat.  The food was so good!

First came the hot rolls.  Sweet Mother of Pearl!  Oh my gosh!  They were some of the best dinner rolls I have ever eaten. (Yes, we began eating and then remembered to take a picture.) They were light and very tasty.  I think it was Mrs. Ralph that said she could have made a meal of the dinner rolls.  Yummy!

In honor of Dwight, we all ordered chicken fried steak.  I want you to look very carefully.  Ever-Lovin’ and I split an order of chicken fried steak, and this is what we got.  It was humongous!  This is one half of the order.

And this is the other half of the order.  Not only were the portions large, the chicken fried steak was great.  It is made with real meat – you know what I mean.

There was just the right amount of breading, and the meat was very tender.  Let it be known that Hoffbrau’s chicken fried steak has Dwight’s seal of approval.

Dwight and Mrs. Ralph got a bowl of the 3 Cheese Mac n’ Cheese.  Delish!

Look at the barrels and rocking chairs on the patio.  A good place to sit back and relax.  We were wondering – Do you think we could play cards here?

It is great to have new restaurants in the neighborhood especially when they are this good.

Happy Happy Birthday Dwight!  We enjoyed your birthday.  Thank you for sharing it with us.

Blessings to you and yours.
