The Dallas Arboretum and Coconut Meringue Pie at The Mecca

Mentioned to a friend that Ever-Lovin’ and I had been to The Mecca.

“Oh, I would love to see and eat at the new Mecca,” says she.  (Many years ago, this friend had a connection with the owners of the Mecca, and during those days, she and her husband often dined at The Mecca.)

Well…  Since a group of us were planning a trip to the Dallas Arboretum, and The Mecca is “in the neighborhood.” “How would you like to have lunch at The Mecca?,” says I.

“Oh, I would LOVE it,” says friend.

The Chihuly glass sculptures at the Arboretum were dazzling in the sun.  If you have not seen them, I encourage you to go to the Dallas Arboretum before the exhibit leaves on November 5, 2012.

Then there was the unbelievably amazing display of 50,00 pumpkins.

(Friend BB does not like “warty” gourds and pumpkins. – She thinks they are gross.  I guess Monster Gourds is a good name for them.)

So, after the perfect morning at the Dallas Arboretum, we head down Garland Road to Lakewood to enjoy lunch at The Mecca.

Jackalope is still here to greet you.

This time friend and I split the chicken fried steak.  It is good – real meat, and not too much breading.  The breading could have been crispier, but overall it was good.  And as you can see, splitting an order was a good idea – our plates were full.

Other orders were:

The Tuna Melt – They liked it.  The fries were wonderful.

A breakfast order of eggs with corn beef hash.  Good eating.

Then we ordered one slice of Coconut Meringue Pie to share (between 5 people – but one person was very good, and did not take nary a bite).  Sweet Mother of Pearl!  The Coconut Meringue Pie is the reason I am writing this updated blog about The Mecca.

The four of us agreed – this slice of pie might be the best Coconut Meringue Pie we have ever put into our mouths.  It was so good I had to buy a slice to take home to Ever-Lovin’. (He liked it. He loved it.)

If you go to The Mecca, save room for dessert or better still – eat dessert first.  You will not be sorry.

Blessings to you and yours,

A day at the Arboretum and Coconut Meringue Pie – life is good!
