Alpha Delta Kappa – Founder’s Day

Posted on: Oct 24, 2012        In: Gatherings        With: No comments

I am privileged to be a member of the Beta Chi chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa.  Alpha Delta Kappa is an educational sorority founded in 1947 by four women who saw a need to recognize and support the professional effort of outstanding women educators.  It is now an international organization.  The members support each other, and enrich the lives of others through community-based altruistic programs.

This month is ADK Month, and we met with the Fidelis Nu chapter to honor our founders and all the members that have come before us.

Of course you cannot meet without eating.

All of the treats were dietetic healthy foods – this is one emphasis for the year.

I did not realize there were so many sugar-free mixes on the market, and they were pretty good.

Kitty – the District II President helped us form a timeline of events in the life of ADK and the world.

It was fun and very educational.

The altruistic project for this month was canned meats for The Network.  Other months we make hats for children with cancer, support the women’s shelter, raise funds for St. Jude’s, collect school supplies, contribute to the J.J Pearce Scholarship Fund, and donate diapers for Refugee Services, and this is the short list.  ADK has a continuing commitment to the unselfish giving of gifts, time and talents.  Makes me proud.

Then it was time to honor our own members.

Roses were presented to silver and sapphire members (they have been members of ADK for more than 25 years.)  This is President Jenny and Karen.

Apples were presented to teachers who are currently teaching.

These ladies are so much fun!  I must say – “I am proud to know and be a part of them!”.

Blessings to you and yours,
