Greater Dallas Prayer Ministry

At the Mercy Street Fundraising Luncheon, two ladies – Janie McKay and Agatha Odamah – spoke to me.

They thought I was a photographer.

I said, “Not really, I just have a little blog.”

“A blog.  How perfect.  You can put our invitation to the Greater Dallas Prayer Ministry on your blog.  We will talk to you more over at Mercy Street.”  To say they were beyond enthusiastic about their prayer ministry would be an understatement.  They were more also extremely excited about Catherine Brown from Scotland who will be their keynote speaker.

These lovely ladies insisted on having their picture made with me.  They worried if their lipstick matched their clothes.  As you can tell, I have on no lipstick. (I guess I ate it off. – Maybe they were hinting.)  Also that white under my top is a shell (not a you-know-what strap).  Truthfully, I almost felt like I had been “kidnapped by Walmart.”

Sure enough.  They were at Mercy Street talking to one of the staff members about the Greater Dallas Prayer Ministry.  Later I asked the staff member from Mercy Street about The Greater Dallas Prayer Ministry, and he said it was worthwhile.  So I am passing the invitation along to you.

Backstory – This is from information given to me by Janie and Agatha.  In the spring of 1972 Vonette Bright was hosted in the chapel of Highland Park Presbyterian Church while in Dallas with her husband Bill Bright of Campus Crisade for Christ.  Vonette shared her passion “that none should perish”, with a group of Park Cities/North Dallas women.  Inspired by Vonette’s challenge, the first Great Commission Prayer Crusade was held at SMU.  Each following year, leadership has been in place for; Citywide prayer chains, monthly concerts of prayer, praying for the needs of our city, and seminars and workshops partnering with churches across the city.  In  1999 we crossed the line to South Dallas to Southern Bible Institute with our Concerts of Prayer and further broadened our territory as we joined together across the metroplex and became Greater Dallas Prayer Ministry.

Forty years later we are blessed to welcome international speaker, intercessor, and Bible teacher, Catherine Brown, from Scotland.

Here is the invitation:

“Seek the Peace and Prosperity of the city where I’ve sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on it’s behalf, for in its welfare you will find your own welfare…” Jeremiah 29:7.

These ladies so want to bring together the citizens of Dallas to pray for our city.

Blessings to you and yours,

I do not know personally about this ministry, but I do know we are called to pray.   And praying for our city is needed.  God’s people are called to be “the salt of the earth” and “a light”.  Banding together in prayer is good.
