December at the Arboretum

Did not expect to write about the Dallas Arboretum again for a long long time (Ever-Lovin’s request), but a few of us went to see the Chihuly exhibits at night.  The night was crisp and almost cold – perfect for a winter outting.  If they would have served hot drinks, it would have been beyond perfect.  (Plus, they would have made money.)

What a radiant glow.  Reminds me of a bonfire.

This is like a fairyland. I expected to see fairies flitting about.

Be still my heart.  Could this be dancing tongues of fire?

Then friend, Queen of Everything, noticed the shadows.  From then on, I was totally captivated by the black silhouettes on the walkways.

Pathways fascinate me.  This made me think of Shel Silverstein’s poem, “Where the Sidewalk Ends.”.

These tendrils awaited us at the end of that sidewalk.  The reflections are captivating.

The purple and green glass go together so very well.

The boats at night – Gorgeous!  Sailing into the dark night seems both peaceful and scary at the same time.

Sweet Mother of Pearl. I do love the white lily pads.  The contrast of the white glass and the dark night is stark and beautiful.

Pretty artsy aren’t I?

Just look at this.  I like it.  I love it.

Then we walked around the corner, and there was this blaze of color illuminating the night sky.  Fantastic.

One last shadow picture.  Going to The Dallas Arboretum at night is a wonderful experience.  There are only a few more weeks to see the Chihuly exhibits.  By the way, I read on the Arboretum website that all of the Chihuly Nights are sold out, but do go during the day if you have not been.

Blessings to you and yours,

During this Christmas season, the exhibits in the DeGolyer Mansion are nativities (No pictures allowed).  Trust me.  You do not want to miss seeing these.  I know many of you collect nativity sets, and there are hundreds of nativity sets in the mansion at this time.  Also, the decorations in the house are beyond fantastic.  There are large fully decorated Christmas trees in each room.  There are also more poinsettia plants than are at your local nursery – really!   And all poinsettias are not created equal.  The poinsettias throughout the mansion are humongous and very unusual. I never knew there were so many colors of poinsettias.  Some of the poinsettias almost appear to by striped like candy canes. You will just have to see it to believe it.
