A Carriage Ride Through Highland Park

It was the night for the annual Christmas outing for the clan.  This year a carriage ride through Highland Park to see the Christmas lights was on the agenda .  Be still my heart!  Riding in a carriage to see Christmas lights was wonderful.  It was so good.  The night air was crisp, clear and just cold enough.  Blankets were used but hands were not freezing.  I liked it.  I loved it.

For many years, we have driven Armstrong Parkway to see the lights, but riding in the carriage was SO much better.  First of all the carriage was open air, we had an unobstructed view, and the night was perfect.  By riding in  the carriage, there was not the frustration of telling said driver of the car they were going too fast or too slow, or they should have turned left rather than right.  I know you understand viewing Christmas lights frustrations.  Said designated driver for our clan actually got to enjoy the lights this year.

Whitehaven Carriage Company provided the carriages for the rides that began behind the Shops of Highland Park on Oak Lawn in Dallas.

Number Two Son, his beautiful bride Jenny, and Ever-Lovin’ waiting for our carriage.

While we waited, Hot Rod really wanted to pet the horses, and the driver encouraged him to pet them.  As you can tell, he was a little reluctant.

It was reassuring to see two very large horses – Chief and Justice were their names –  attached to our carriage.  No they were not pink.  That is the reflection from other lights.  (Understand – I was taking these pictures at night without a flash.  Some of the pictures are a little funky.  I really do need to go to photography school.)

The back of the carriage was certainly glammed up, and we were in the Christmas spirit.

We were ready to roll.  Look at Hot Rod’s cute face.

Number One Son and his pretty wife Mikel.  Serious fun – here we come.  Number Three Son was also there, but he does not want his picture on Lanabird – okay.

Many trees were lit with colored lights.  Beautiful.

Oh my!  How wonderful.

Sweet Mother of Pearl – I do love the flying Santa.

What a wonderland.

Dirk of Maverick fame.  This is one of his three homes.  Looking good or rather – good looking.

Sweet Mother of Pearl.  This is beyond beautiful.  The 150 year old “Million Dollar Pecan Tree” was once hit by lightening, and they say one million dollars were spent to save it.

A carriage ride to see the Christmas lights is highly recommended.  I liked it.  I loved it.  I want more of it!

Blessings to you and yours,
