Mercy Street

Going to Mercy Street  – the Christian community center that ministers to students in West Dallas – is fun.  The children are beginning to get to know us/ and us them.  Jill told us that when she mentioned to some of the girls that The Living Stones were bringing their Sunday night dinner the girls said, “Oh, yeah!  Donkey Tails!”   I love, love, love it that they remembered us.  (Although, we didn’t bring Donkey Tails this month.)

Jill is our connection to Mercy Street.  She was the first recipient of a scholarship that honors Heather – friend BB’s daughter who died of ovarian cancer at age 26.  Jill taught in Richardson, and then felt led to work in inner city missions.  We love Jill.  She is a fantastic person that serves God and shows his love.

Some of the girls were shy about having their picture made, but when I mentioned I wrote a blog and hoped more people would want to help them, they were so willing to have their picture taken.  The students are polite and appreciative.

Many people do give of their time and make an effort to mentor these student, but there is a great need for more mentors.

This month’s menu was baked potatoes filled with brisket, and salad with Pioneer Woman’s Ranch Dressing.    Sweet Mother of Pearl.  Excellent Cook Nancy made the brisket, and it was delicious. Surprisingly, the salad and dressing was a big hit.  This was an easy menu to feed a crowd.

Be still my heart.  This young man made our day.  He wanted to know if we were from the Food Network.  How about that?

He is charming, personable and has so much potential.

Dear Lord, Thank you for all the people that are working in West Dallas to help these precious children.  I am praying that this young man and all the other children in West Dallas will be able to grow in the Lord and overcome whatever obstacles they may encounter.  Place a hedge around these children and protect them.  Send mentors, caring and capable people to aid them on their journey.  Help us let them know that they are special and loved.

Ramon is another mentor coordinator.  He always has a smile on his face.  It is a blessing to go to Mercy Street.  By helping individuals, Mercy Street’s goals are to revitalize this entire community. Click HERE to read more about the goals Mercy Street has for West Dallas.

Blessings to you and yours,

Do pray for them or volunteer at Mercy Street.  I love their motto:  Each 1 Reach 1.
