Durham Park

Richardson Heights and Cottonwood Heights neighborhoods were the only neighborhoods in Richardson, Texas not to have a park.  Some time ago Miss Jane (the wonderful gardener) and her husband John began talking about a park that was being built in their neighborhood.  They were excited and loved hearing and then sharing the plans for the park.

First, the city bought four houses on Weatherred to be the site for the new park.  The neighborhood associations were involved in the planning.  I think their input was important.

In June  2013 the park was dedicated.  All summer long I have intended to visit the new park.  Finally, I stopped by.  I was impressed.  My first thoughts were – “Be still my heart.  What a wonderful playground.  Oh, there is a pavilion, and a play lawn, and gardens.  I like it.  I love it.”

Let it be known – I visited Durham Park on a hot summer afternoon, and it is understandable why there were no visitors while I was there.

The city of Richardson website has this description of Durham Park:

Funded by the 2010 Bond Program, the new $1.5 million, one-acre Durham Park includes a playground, pavilion, plaza, open play lawn and butterfly garden. Unique design characteristics consist of bricks from the four houses that were previously on the site for the construction of four of the five columns in the pavilion.

The Durham family once owned a farm on this land.

The pavilion with the brick panels will be a wonderful place for a picnic or a party.

I believe this is the butterfly garden with part of the playground in the background.  The landscaping is well done using many native plants.

Part of the playground equipment is interactive.  I think little ones will have so much fun playing here.

The open play lawn is perfect for neighborhood soccer or football game.  Maybe someone would enjoy playing Frisbee.

It makes me proud to live in a community that wants to provide green spaces for their residents.  Having a place to play and relax is a good thing.

Blessings to you and yours,
