McKinney Farmers Market – Chestnut Square

Posted on: Aug 10, 2013        In: Out and About        With: No comments

On the day we went to McKinney, Texas for breakfast at Snug, I noticed the Chestnut Square Farmers Market. (I do not know if “Farmers” should be – Farmers, Farmer’s, or Farmers’.  On their website it is Farmers – so that is what I am going with, but….)  Now, I had read  and heard about the McKinney Farmers Market, and I do love, love, love, going to farmers markets.   After breakfast we – okay I – wanted give this market a look see.  We stopped, and I was a happy camper.

Parking in the area appears to be crowded, but we were there around 11 a.m. and were able to get a parking space directly across from the market.

A big plus to the McKinney market is that it is on the grounds of the historic Chestnut Square and there are trees at Chestnut Square.  The trees provide shade, and thus it is a bit cooler and more enjoyable strolling through this market.

Each week-end there is live entertainment on the porch.  Not many were listening, but it was still enjoyable to walk around with music in the background.

Beautiful locally grown fruits and vegetables were offered for sale.  The motto on their website says:  “Locally Grown, Historically Charming!”  I do believe this market lives up to its motto.

There was an ample supply of fruits and vegetables.  I got okra and peas.  I am here to tell you.  They were delicious.mckinney market 7

The mushroom dealer had these fancy mushrooms as well as several other types of mushrooms for sale.  Yes, there is a booth that sells only mushrooms.

Are you into different types of pasta?  Come to this booth.   These  pastas are suppose to be healthier for you.

Village Baking Company had basically sold out of bread by the time we arrived.  Must be good.

Dominion Farms sells “All Natural Grass Fed Meats.”  It appeared to be a popular booth.  I believe there is at least one other meat dealer here.

Would you like some pickled vegetables?  You can buy them here.

Other booths carried handmade wares.  These straw market bags were beautiful.

For the girls in you life, there was every color of hair bow you would ever want.

I never knew there were so many different types of garlic.  Get this.  One booth sold only garlic.  Amazing.  I bet this garlic is much fresher than the garlic you buy at the store.

There was also a local winery represented at the market.

I have not shown you all of the dealers, but  let it be known – this market is impressive.  I do want to go back.

Chestnut Square Framers Market  is open on Saturdays from eight a.m. until noon.  It would be good to explore the Chestnut Square Historical site more.  I will do that on our next visit.

Blessings to you and yours,
