Spoons Cafe – McKinney, Texas

Another eatery on the Square in McKinney, Texas was on my radar – Spoons Cafe.  Betty’s son Paul (an in-the-know foodie) gave me the recommendation.  So – before the organ concert at the courthouse theater, we took the opportunity to dine at Spoons.

I am beginning to think it is my camera that takes crooked pictures – surely it couldn’t be my fault.  (I know – I must be lop-sided or something like that.)  Sorry.  I did love the entrance to Spoons Cafe.  In front of the cafe is a patio, but few people were out there on this warm (to put it mildly) Texas summer day.

Inside, Spoons had a down-home cafe vibe.  I loved the light fixtures, and the metal ceiling.

The wrap-around counter held cakes and cupcakes.  The color pages are from young guests.  Spoons Cafe is a family friendly restaurant.

Pies were in the cases.  We did not have dessert, but they did look delicious.  Maybe next time.

The young family sitting behind us highly recommended the fried pickles.  I thought their son’s Frito Pie looked enticing.  His father assured him it was okay if he did not eat all of the Frito Pie since it was such a large serving.

We decided to order the fried okra/fried pickles combination.  Sweet Mother of Pearl!  I am glad we took that young family’s recommendation.

Ever-Lovin’ had a burger with sweet potato fries.  The old-fashion burger was delicious.  The sweet potato fries were done right.  They were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Friend BB and her sister Carol shared a BLTA and declared it excellent.  The thick slice of avocado was the extra touch.

In the comfort food category there was chicken fried steak.  This was a half portion.  Yes, the serving are ample at Spoons Cafe.  Mrs. Ralph and Dwight gave the chicken fried steak two thumbs up.

The chili-cheese hot dog was my choice, and I liked it.  The French fries also got good marks.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served at Spoons Cafe. For some of us that think breakfast is the best meal of the day, it is good to  know that breakfast is served all day.  I am looking forward to returning to Spoons Cafe for breakfast.

What a wonderful evening.  Good friends, good food, and a concert.  Life is good.

Blessings to you and yours,

The waiters wore cute t-shirts that said, “Do you want to spoon?”  Of course I don’t have a picture, but I wish I did.
