Backstory:  Probably two or more years ago, Ever-Lovin’ and I stopped in Taylor, Texas to eat at the world famous Louie Mueller’s Barbecue.  We had read glowing reports about Mueller’s “Best in Texas” barbecue, and we wanted to try it.  Be still my heart.  It was the best barbecue I had ever put in my mouth.  It was brisket of my dreams.  If the topic of barbecue ever arose in casual conversations, I did not hesitate to proclaim Louis Mueller’s Barbecue my all time favorite.

On our recent trip to the Hill Country, I made sure we would be in Taylor at lunchtime for barbecue.  They are opened 11:00 am-6:00 pm (or until they run out of meat) Monday- Friday.  On Saturday, they open at 10:00 am, and they are closed on Sundays.  Their website mentions that you can call ahead and reserve your order.

Louie Mueller’s Barbecue has been located in Taylor, Texas since 1949.  Taylor, Texas – my Google maps did not even recognize this town.  Taylor is located  on highway 95 between Temple and Bastrop.  Mueller’s has been credited with putting Texas barbecue on the map.  This iconic establishment has been on every “Best Barbecue” list that Texas Monthly has ever published.  In 2008, it was awarded  “The Official Best Barbecue in Texas – 2008 ” by Texas Monthly.

Awards and articles cover the walls.  In 2007, Louie Mueller’s Barbecue was featured on the Food Network’s Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives.  To say Mueller’s is world famous might be an understatement.

Mueller’s walls and ceilings are covered with smoke and soot from all the years of making excellent barbecue.  You smell the goodness the minute you walk through the doors.

The menu on the wall is written on butcher paper.  This joint is filled with Texas character.

Meat can be ordered by the slice or by the pound.  When you arrive at the counter, you are given a taste of the smoky brisket.  It is so good, you want to order too much.  The meat was served on butcher paper, and it was wonderful, excellent, tender, tasty, fantastic,  ____ keep filling in the blanks.  I liked it.  I loved it.

Juicy goodness abounds in this perfectly smoky charred brisket.  I have also read rave reviews about their beef ribs.  Maybe I will try one next time.

Of course, future trips to Central Texas will include revisiting Louie Mueller’s.  It is too good to miss.

Blessings to you and yours,

Life is good!
