Dining at Good ‘n Plenty – Bird-in-Hand, Pennsylvania

Food is an important aspect of the Lancaster County Pennsylvania Dutch experience.  One of the outstanding family owned and operated restaurants in the area is named Good ‘n Plenty.  Good ‘n Plenty has been chosen as one of AAA’s Top 10 Best “down-home dining” restaurants in North America.  It has also been named as “the best” local PA Dutch restaurant for the past 17 years.  The brochure mentions that Good ‘n Plenty is “staffed with local cooks who have devoted years to preparing outstanding food.”  Sweet Mother of Pearl!  We were ready for the “Authentic Lancaster County Dining Experience”, and what a fun experience it was.

Good and Plenty

Guests are seated at long tables, and the “all you can eat” food is served family style.

Good and Plenty

From the moment we sat down, there were bowls of food for us to eat.  I especially enjoyed the bean salad and the slaw.

It is impossible to show you all the choices of food offered, and what was so amazing is that this food tasted fresh and delicious.

Be still my heart!  These three entrees were delicious.  I loved the ham loaf, and wish I knew how to make it.  The fried chicken was crunchy on the outside and moist and tasty on the inside.  The beef roast was fantastic.  It was so tender we could cut it with our forks.  I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food.

Sides dishes included peas, mashed potatoes, noodles, applesauce and corn.  I am sure there was more.

After gorging on the main meal, then came the desserts.  Wow!  Shoo-fly pie is a little too sweet for me.  I think it is basically molasses.  The apple pie was filled with apples, and had a nice crumb topping.  Yummy!   Ever-Lovin’ tried the cheese cake and gave it his stamp of approval.

Good ‘n Plenty also offers menu dining for guests with “smaller appetites”.  (Okay!)

There is a bakery located within the restaurant that offers homemade breads, pies, cookies, muffins, whoopie pies, and sticky buns.  The pleasant couple seated across from us raved about the bakery at Good ‘n Plenty.

We had an enjoyable time dining at Good ‘n Plenty.  The food was delicious, and the guests at our table were delightful.  The couple sitting across from us were celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary.  (How fun to join in their celebration and to listen to their wedding stories.)  The large family at the other end of the table were headed home to Virginia.

I can guarantee that you will not go home hungry after dining at Good ‘n Plenty, and you will enjoy your meal.

Blessings to you and yours,
