Potting Table

I was convicted.  I was inspired.  Other bloggers created gorgeous potting sheds and potting tables.  You can see some of my inspirations on my Pinterest board.  Some of my favorite bloggers – Hospitality Designs, Stone Gable, and Home is Where the Boat Is – have created potting sheds and potting benches.

This is the BEFORE picture.  It is what you see from our den.  I have used this marble topped table for potting and also as a serving table, but it has been more utilitarian than attractive.  True story – Almost thirty years ago, a neighbor was moving and asked us to “store” this slab of marble for him for a while.  We kept it.  We moved it.  And we put it on the two iron sewing machine bases to use as a table.  A couple of years ago, we saw said former neighbor at a restaurant.  He asked if we still had HIS marble.  We said, “Yes, come and get it anytime you want it.”  He still hasn’t come.  It has worked well, but it wasn’t charming.  Says I to myself – “Maybe I can  try to improve my potting table.”

This is the AFTER – although I do feel it still needs some help.  It is an improvement.

The cabinet that was retrieved from our neighbor’s trash has been moved into this area to hold towels and some planters. This was not as easy as I thought it would be because Ever-Lovin’ had to relay the bricks so the cabinet would be level.  It is never easy.

On top of the cabinet is my grandparents well bucket filled with daisies (???), a ceramic teapot birdhouse that Super Sister made for me, a floral tole tray and a wooden church birdhouse that was my mother’s.

All of these things I had stored in the garage or on the side of our house.  Enamel wash pans are useful for holding potting soil and clay pots.  I thought the little white metal stand gave some height to the area.  The items on this shelf are mainly decorative.  I love flying pigs, and Super Sister gave me this flying pig watering can.  The little metal watering can was a thrift store find.  Garden tools are stored in the brass planter.  (The straw hat is on the bedpost in the guest bedroom.)

Saint Francis has been on this table for ever and a day, and so I couldn’t move him.  The three-tier wire basket holds clay pots, gardening gloves and a couple of succulents.  I copied others and added some plants to this area… because I like the idea.

I love the little blue and white pottery bird house that says, “Will Rent for a Song”.  The redware birdhouse is from Williamsburg.

Next to the table, an iron washstand holds a fern, and the towel shows flowers from the Lake District in England.  The pitiful plant in the white tub is a “rescue plant”.  I doubt it can be saved, but we are trying.

I like the table better.  I know it still needs work, but… it has been great fun working on this.

Blessings to you and yours,

Once I began working on the potting table, I started playing in the garden also.  Will share those pictures on another post.
