Oldwest Cafe – Denton, Texas

Friend Betty had an appointment in Denton, and she invited me to ride along.  I so appreciate when friends consider Lanabird, and suggest, “Maybe we can eat somewhere special, and you can blog about it.”  Thank you, Betty!

While looking online, Oldwest Cafe was on several recommended lists.  Then the receptionist added her stamp of approval for OWC, and she even mentioned that this restaurant is a favorite of the office staff.  ( They even printed directions for us.)  With all the positive recommendations, we set out to find Oldwest Cafe.Oldwest

The parking lot was full – cars surrounded the building (front, back, and sides).  That is always a good sign.

Oldwest Cafe is opened for breakfast and lunch.

The first thing I noticed as we walked into the restaurant was this sign – We Are So Blessed.  I knew immediately that I liked this place.

Inside the building there is plenty of western decor.  It was nothing fancy, but we could tell customers were enjoying their food.

The tables were adorned with stars and other Texas symbols.  I loved that there was a place cut out of the table for the jelly and sweeteners.  Pretty clever.  The menu was extensive, and for a first timer, it was a little overwhelming.

Betty and I both ordered the half order of Steak Tenders.  This is majorly good chicken fried steak.  You get to choose two sides.  We both ordered the corn fritters, and Betty got onion rings, and I got mashed potatoes.  Everything was delicious, and the servings were huge (considering that it was a half order.)  Coffee was good.

I must return to Oldwest Cafe.  I want to order breakfast.  All of the breakfast platters looked fantastic.  From what I read, OWC has been voted The Best Breakfast for the last 8 years.  Just looking at the plates of pancakes, omelets, French toast, and many other egg dishes made me hungry for breakfast. We noticed some customers ordered salads.  I want to try a salad also.

There are four other locations of OWC in the area – Sanger, Bedford, Grapevine, and Arlington (Opening soon.)  I mentioned to the cashier that I wished there was an Oldwest Cafe in Richardson.  He said, “I think it is in the works.”  Now I do not know if that is true, but that is what he said.  Trust me – It would be wonderful.

As I am planning my return trip to Oldwest Cafe, I am wondering which location is the closest?

Blessings to you and yours,
