Mercy Street September 2014

It was a good time in the Mercy Street Cafe tonight.  The Mercy Street Cafe was overflowing with middle school children who came for fun with friends, supper, and Bible study.

This was the Living Stones and Men’s Class first time to visit Mercy Street since the new school year began.  Some of the students were friends we have met before, but there plenty of new faces in the room.

This young lady was getting help from her mentor with her homework.  I loved her dedication.

Groups then spread throughout the building for Bible study.

Our Mission
MERCY STREET hopes to be used by God to spark Christ-honoring community restoration by engaging in mutually-transforming relationships with the future leaders of West Dallas. (Mercy Street website)

The “mutually-transforming relationships” happen when each student is paired with a mentor.   The staff of Mercy Street also provided the students love, support and opportunities to learn of Christ.

Jerry, Mercy Street Church’s lead pastor was at Mercy Street well past 6:45 pm.  When asked where he was headed, he said he was going home to his beautiful wife and four children.  The staff of Mercy Street is dedicated to making a difference in this community.  Most of the staff live in this West Dallas community.

Lee, the Director of Sports at Mercy Street, has a tremendous job.  So many children can be reached through sports.

The Living Stones and the Men’s Class have been blessed by being associated with Mercy Street.  We help in a very small way by bringing a meal once a month for the middle school Bible study.  But… there is another way we can help this Thursday, September 18, 2014.

September 18, 2014 is an important date for Mercy Street and other charities in North Texas because it is the North Texas Giving Day.  From 6 am  to midnight on Thursday, September 18 your donation to Mercy Street can be multiplied.  It is a winning situation for local charities, and it is so easy.  On September 18, visit the North Texas Giving Day website and you will be able to donate to your favorite charities.  The best part about your donation is that it will be doubled or multiplied in some way.  I like that!

Blessings to you and yours,

Other charities I can recommend because we have had personal experiences with them are:

Buckner International – Shoes for Orphan Souls

Dallas Life – A large faith based homeless shelter in Dallas.

The Network of Community Ministries – Area Richardson churches have banded together to provide assistance to the poor in our community.

This is just a short list.  There are so many worthy charities.
