Welcome to the State Fair of Texas

We made it to the State Fair of Texas this year by the skin of our teeth. (It closes on Sunday, October 19th.)  I guess better late than never, but…  Okay, we did somewhat better than we did last year when we didn’t even make it to The Fair.  I seriously believe not going to The Fair is un-Texan.  So, if you have a chance on this final weekend, it is not too late to  go.  We had a good time – saw the new Big Tex for the first time, ate our fair share of fair fare (Sorry!  That was Ever-Lovin’s contribution.), and saw some interesting exhibits.

We tried something new and took the Dart train to Fair Park.  It worked!  Except for a little waiting, it was great.  We didn’t have to fight traffic, hunt for a parking space, or pay $15 for parking.  (The Dart day pass of senior citizens is $2.50 per person.)  We tried to use the Dart app to buy our rail passes and get discount tickets, but it would not work.  Bummer!

Walking into the State Fair of Texas is exciting.  Love the Texas flags.

Like many others, I mourned the loss of Big Tex in 2012.  I had misgivings about seeing the new Big Tex, but I must admit – he was better than I thought he would be.

His face is kinder and gentler.  The Dickies jeans and shirt are good looking.

I thought I was going to hate the boots, but in real life they are okay.  I guess I feel he is family, and he needs our love and support.

Just inside the entrance to the fair was a Fletcher’s Corny Dog stand.  Number 1 on my “Want to Do” list at the fair is to eat a Fletcher’s Corny Dog.

While standing in the long line, I even announced to the entire world that I did not want to share because I wanted my own corny dog.  (I was embarrassed when people standing around us began laughing, but they understood.)

Yes, the Fletcher’s Corny Dogs are delicious, and slathering them with mustard is a must.  I don’t care much for ketchup though.

Wow!  We had been inside the fair for about 15 minutes, and I was a happy camper.  We had our coupons.  We had seen and heard Big Tex, and we had eaten a Fletcher’s Corny Dog.  Life is good.

Blessings to you and yours,

I do have more to share on other posts.
