This is another recommendation from MarshaChristmas. I do love knowing about her comings and goings. She is always having so much fun. Around the corner from the Kolache Station Bakery is another little bakery/restaurant called Sugar and Spice Bakery. (One can’t help but finish the phrase – “and everything nice”. It is nice. (I know that is a four letter word in writing, but…) It is run by nice people. The sandwiches and soup were delicious (nice), and the desserts were worth a trip back to Parker and Independence in Plano (very nice).
The bakery is small with just a few tables. The decor is simple, attractive, and the shop is very clean. The atmosphere was quiet and peaceful. It was not crowded, but there were a steady stream of customers – some appeared to be taking sandwiches back to the office.
The menu is basic lunch fare – soup, sandwiches, and salads. I liked the fact that the man taking our order would yell back to the kitchen to “Mother” to ask her a question. This truly is a mom and pop and son operation.
Ever-Lovin’ and I both thought the Plum Good Chicken Salad Sandwich sounded delicious, and it was. This chicken salad is filled with dried plums, pineapple and nuts. It was great! The Classic Chicken Salad is not as sweet and is filled with celery. MarshaChristmas says it is also good.
I opted for the half sandwich with soup. Chicken Gumbo was the soup of the day, and it was delicious. As you can tell, this is a no frills lunch place that uses paper plates and utensils.
The treats in the bakery case looked too good to pass up. After all, this is first and foremost a bakery.
I ordered a slice of the chess pie. This was the first piece cut from a whole pie, and it fell apart a bit. It was very sweet and delicious. The son said, “You get real forks with the pie because the metal fork works better on the pie crust.”
I was shocked that Ever-Lovin’ chose the pecan pie over the slice of cherry pie. I do think this pecan pie looked too good to pass up, and it was excellent. Yummy!
There was another case that sold take out dishes. On this day, they offered green chicken enchiladas and cream of broccoli soup. One lady came in who appeared to be a regular customer and asked “What am I having for supper tonight?”. I guess her dinner each night is what they offer on that day.
In her email, MarshaChristmas mentioned that she had eaten at Sugar and Spice Bakery three times during the last month. She has even taken friends to lunch there. Now that is a wonderful recommendation. I know I would like to make a return trip.
Blessings to you and yours,
Thank you MarshaChristmas. I am looking forward to trying your third recommendation.
