Good Eats on Christmas Eve

One last Christmas post.  There was plenty of good food to eat on Christmas Eve during our open house.  Guests usually bring treats to share, and we enjoy everyone’s goodies.  For those of you who like to know, here was the menu.

Christmas Eve 2014

Stephanie (Logan helped) won the prize for the cutest treats.  She saw these Grinch Kabobs on Pinterest and made them.  They are so cute, and they are also tasty.  A grape, a slice of banana, a strawberry, and a marshmallow are on a skewer.  The red skewers were perfect for Christmas.

Number One Son pleased everyone with his Sausage Balls.  These are truly  the best sausage balls I have ever eaten.

Tamales are our standard fare for Christmas Eve, and we had Pico de Gallo, Guacamole, picante sauce and queso to compliment the tamales.

By the way – We heated the tamales in the oven in covered roasting pans.  A little bit of water was added to the pan, and it worked well. This enabled us to heat a large quantity of tamales at one time.

The Polly DuPont Meatballs were a hit.  I like them.  I love them.

This year we also added some chopped brisket for sliders.  That went over very well, and next year I will buy more brisket.

The coffee table was ladened with veggies, dips, chips and crackers.  A cheese and fruit tray was on another side table.  I was glad to have a reason to make the Olive Spread.  It is one of my favorite spreads.

Christmas Eve 2014

Sweet Mother of Pearl!  We had so many sweet treats.  Linda brought the wonderful peanut brittle.  How sweet of her to leave it.  Stella brought chocolate chip cookies.  They are always a favorite.  On the tier server were Skillet Date Cookies and White Chocolate Chip Macadamia Nut Cranberry Orange Cookies.  Sweet Mikel made the yummy pumpkin bread.

Christmas Eve 2014

Number Two Son’s sweet wife Jenny brought her delicious pumpkin pie.  Both of my daugher-in-laws are wonderful cooks.  Yea!

Paul’s cherry pie is not shown because this picture was taken too early.  He brings the cherry pie because he knows how much I love it.  Thank you Paul.  In the green tin next to the pie were the sugared pecans Janet and Robert brought. Oh, my.  They are so good, and she even left them for us to nibble on during the holidays.  That is beyond kind.

Hot Rod made another batch of his Oreo Cookie Balls.  He has now declared this his signature recipe, and I think he has made them by himself three times now.  Christmas Sugar Cookies were on the tall cake stand.

You can’t have Christmas Eve without Egg Nog, and I use the recipe from the Dove’s Nest in Waxahachie.  I have had better egg nog (Betty Ann’s), but this is easy and I can do it.  It is melted Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla ice cream and bourbon.  That is it.  You decide how much bourbon you want to add.

We also made Mikel’s mother’s Russian Tea.  It is a nice change from hot cider.  Fruit juices are added to  strong tea, and it is so good. It makes enough for a huge crowd.

As you can tell, we had no shortage of good food.  Sitting around the tables with good friends is the best.
Thanks to everyone for bringing such good food, and for sharing your Christmas with us.

Blessings to you and yours,
